Recipe for Life– “Recipe” will focus on various aspects of nutrition and health that will be helpful to caregivers, those affected with Alzheimer’s disease and everyone in between. A well balanced diet, high in complex carbohydrates, with several servings of fruits and vegetables each day is essential to good physical and mental health.
During my 7 years as a caregiver for my mom, who had Alzheimer’s disease, I moved twice, had two horrible pregnancies (but two great sons!), traveled domestically and internationally and worked as a freelance writer.

“It’s terribly lonely here,” said Mrs. Watson the other day. “There’s lots going on, but it’s very lonely.”
Actually, I haven’t yet seen much going on in her nursing home, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Their schedule shows activities every day, which theoretically means that its residents have a more active social life than I do.

The 81-year-old retired physician in Los Angeles didn’t know his doctor’s name, what state he lived in, or what date it was. (Personally, I never know the date, until I look it up. My grandma never knew the date either, because she couldn’t see the calendar). Then doctors injected etanercept, an anti-inflammatory drug approved to treat arthritis, into his neck. When they tested him again ten minutes later, he could tell them that he lived in California and what day it was. He seemed less frustrated and more calm. His score on the Alzheimer’s diagnostic test had improved from 7 out of 30 to 15 out of 30.
According to the Journal of Neuroinflammation, the doctors had previously injected the drug into 15 other patients, but had never tested its immediate effects. Said his wife, “He’s not the same person he was…. We almost fell off our chairs watching this.” Said his son, as quoted by BBC News, it was the “single most remarkable thing I’ve seen.”

There is still a lot of study going on in relation to neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Since it’s incredibly difficult to study the mind, breakthroughs and advances in this area are extremely slow and require more study than other parts of the body. At this point, there has been some study that is suggesting that low levels of vitamin b12 in the body will contribute to the formation of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s and vitamin b12 sublingual come together as the vitamin works to fight against the disease.
Several tests have been done that weigh Alzheimer’s and vitamin b12 sublingual and a good number of them show that those that are afflicted with these disorders have low levels of the vitamin b12 in their system. This is by no means conclusive, yet it is suggestive which would make me believe that making sure a daily vitamin b12 supplement may be helpful to those in the early stages of the disease. Alzheimer’s and vitamin b12 sublingual are making the point that this vitamin can fight the neurological diseases. Making sure that there is a regiment of b12 every day as one enters old age may be a way to fight the onslaught of the disease.
